About
His story
Born in Benin, West Africa, Boy T is an African-Canadian artist whose passion for music ignited in his youth. Immersed in a culturally rich environment, he began writing lyrics and experimenting with music software in 2002. Although he paused his musical ambitions in 2007 to focus on studies in Agronomy and Business Management, he reignited his passion in 2016.
Boy T's distinctive sound blends hip-hop, R&B, pop, and Afro influences. His debut single “Jealousy” (2018) gained local traction, followed by his self-produced album "AWAKE" in 2020. His recognition grew with tracks like "Lost" and "From Love," earning him a place in Hartland’s music scene. In 2022, his work was incorporated into educational curriculums for Black History Month.
He has actively engaged with youth through concerts at Fredericton High School, including "Oui Francé," promoting bilingualism, and "Black and Motivated," which coincided with the release of his second album, "Above Struggle." This album received a nomination for Recording of the Year by Music New Brunswick.
A collaborative artist, Boy T has achieved multiple nominations in the East Coast music scene, including four at the New Brunswick Music Awards in 2022. His commitment to social issues is evident in his latest track, "For Better," addressing the housing crisis.
His vibrant performance at the Antigonish Summer Theatre in August 2024 highlighted his connection with the community. As he prepares for the 2024 Prix MNB Awards, Boy T continues to inspire others, proving that passion, creativity, and dedication can lead to impactful change.
